Healthcare Jobs Are Growing Are We Ready

Hudson Valley’s job growth is sending a clear signal. Private education and health services added 6,500 jobs over the year through August 2026 and reached a record 239,800 jobs, making it the region’s leading job generator, according to the NYS Department of Labor.

The opportunity is local and national

The question behind Healthcare Jobs Are Growing. Are We Ready? is about preparation. Growth in healthcare does not only mean doctors and nurses. It also means trained support staff who can help patients move through complex systems.

Nationally, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects medical assistant employment to grow 13% from 2025 to 2035, with about 107,600 openings each year. The 2025 median pay was $45,690.

Healthcare needs more than clinical skills

Many healthcare-support roles depend on practical skills such as:

  • Medical terminology

  • Administrative and office procedures

  • Billing and coding basics

  • Clear communication

  • Customer service

  • Patient-facing problem solving

These skills help clinics, hospitals, and community health providers serve people with accuracy and care.

The Excel Project can help residents explore the path

Through UniversalClass access, The Excel Project connects residents with online learning options such as Medical Terminology 101 and CPT Coding for Beginners. This fits the goal of The Excel Project October Opportunity Series: to connect local talent with real labor-market needs.

These courses are for skill-building and career exploration. They do not replace licenses, professional certifications, degrees, training programs, or employer requirements.
